For a decade, footwear industryveterans Nick Martire and Willa Leus-Martire — avid trail runners who grewdissatisfied with the shoes on themarket — discussed creating a premiumoff-road-ready brand of their own.“We’ve bounced the idea for 10 yearsbut every time I would say, ‘What’s ourtechnology? What’s our thing going tobe?’” Nick recalled. Those ideas began to take shapewhen Nick, accompanied by design vetLouis Tremblay, went to internationaltrade show MICAM Milano in February2020. At the event, the two becameenamored with Dyneema, maker of ahigh-strength and ultralight fiber.Less than a month later, with COVID-19forcing people indoors, the husband-and-wife duo decided to create Norda. In July 2021, Norda released its firstshoe, the 001, a trail-ready style builtwith premium components for the off-road runner seeking superior quality. The 001 features seamless uppersmade with sustainable, biobasedDyneema Fibers, which are bothBluesign and ISCC approved.
